Who is Chris?
Chris Clacio heard his calling to innovate city governance through building citizen capacity from his start as a volunteer helper and participant in student councils, interest groups, clubs and courses. In high school, he was honoured with a citizen engagement award for his extensive participation and upbeat attitude. He studied and participated in activities related to the topics of human rights, racism, political and philosophical ideas, citizen engagement, and community service.
Chris has been acting on his civic responsibility to participate in the city politics by running for School Trustee in Seven Oaks School, Division 2, and was a registered candidate for Mayor in the 2022 election. Most recently in 2023, he ran as an Independent Candidate alongside the “Longest Ballot Initiative” during the Winnipeg South Centre Federal By-Election
Chris sees his experience as a first-generation child of immigrant parents being a gift in both its challenges and opportunities. This experience gives him a sense of unity with all citizens, including Black, Indigenous, Filipino and people of colour.
Chris is an urban Canadian Filipino youth with 16 years of experience volunteering for community building initiatives that encourage youth and citizen engagement. He works at a grocery store in the Maples, where he lives. Shaped by family and cultural values, Chris is a first generation Filipino-Canadian son of a single mom in a large extended family that he is deeply committed to. He dedicates his time studying and discussing local civic issues.
Chris wants to build relationships amongst those who are different from each other to come to a common ground. Chris’s personal role as a citizen of the City of Winnipeg is one he will take to public office, with the goal being to build relationships, gain knowledge, and support other people.

Chris’ Community
Over the years, Chris and other like-minded youth have been gathering regularly in civics system literacy conversation tables like “Politix Brainstorm” and later, “Intercivics”.
Chris takes great pride in his work in the community. With each professional or volunteer opportunity, his greatest accomplishment has been the people he has met along the ride. Below is a list of businesses, communities, and organizations that Chris is proud to part of.
Chris participated in the “NextUp Leadership Program” in 2015 and 2016. NextUp is an across Canada Leadership Program for young leaders, ages 18-32, who are Committed to social, economic and environmental justice.
In October 2023, the Bioscience Association of Manitoba “Leadership Development Program” helped formally train Chris to be an “Emotional Intelligence Practitioner”.
As a Co-Founder and the Community Engagement Officer of a Manitoba non-profit called “On Chain Manitoba”, Chris helps advance their Mission to advance opportunities for creators and entrepreneurs on the Blockchain. (January 2024)
As a passionate supporter of housing in Winnipeg, Chris has been volunteering and organizing with YIMBY Winnipeg since 2019. Their most recent success was pushing forward zoning changes for the Housing Accelerator Fund.
Indigenous Friendships
Chris Clacio is proud of the connections and mentorships that he has made in the Winnipeg Indigenous community. He has sat on a number research engagement and ethical oversight committees for projects with and for Indigenous youth living within Winnipeg’s inner city. He has participated and volunteered within the inner-city for over 7 years where he has supported initiatives such as:
